Backer Material Is Part of the System
Proper backing promotes two-point adhesion so the chinking can stretch across the joint instead of bonding to three surfaces. Weatherall recommends Triple Stretch Grip Strip rather than round or split-round backer rod for its chinking system.
Choosing Tubes or Pails
Tube cases work well for repairs and smaller projects. Five-gallon pails are generally the more efficient choice for larger jobs when used with a bulk-loading chinking gun. Required quantity depends on total joint length, width, and depth.
Before You Apply
Joints must be properly prepared, backed, clean, and compatible with the selected Weatherall finish. Follow the manufacturer’s application guide for joint design, tooling, temperature, and curing requirements.
